WrestleMania XXX Musical Acts the WWE Should and Should Not Book

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | Once the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view concludes on January 26, the Road to WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans will officially get underway.

The Road to WrestleMania is a WWE tag line that consists of all the hype and build up to WrestleMania. Besides the obvious storyline development leading up to WrestleMania XXX, pro wrestling fans will also learn who will be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame this year, in addition to what celebrities will be involved in WrestleMania XXX. Usually, part of the evening's entertainment at WrestleMania includes one or more musical acts.

Musical acts performing at WrestleMania has been a controversy for many years. Often, diehard wrestling fans hate this part of the show, as hip hop and pop singers don't exactly rank high on the list of entertainment choices for many of these fans. At the same time, these musical acts are extremely popular with a large segment of the population and the WWE is happy to have these casual wrestling fans buy WrestleMania as well.

Take an early look at musical acts the WWE should and should not consider for WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans.

The WWE should consider booking these musical acts for WrestleMania XXX

3MB

I realize 3MB is a WWE wrestling faction. But even though they're jobbers, heels, and aren't really a band, 3MB still has quite a following among wrestling fans. I could see 3MB coming out to trash talk the real musical act for WrestleMania XXX before they start, then go on to give a brutal rendition of one of their songs. But if might be even funnier to see Heath Slater lip-synch some popular song while Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre play air guitar.

Harry Connick, Jr.

New Orleans' own Harry Connick, Jr. is about to become very famous. Connick will be one of this season's judges on American Idol. The combination of Connick's presence on this show, being born in New Orleans, and being an accomplished jazz musician may be too much for the WWE to pass up for WrestleMania XXX.

Dr. John

In the interest of full disclosure, I've lived in New Orleans my whole life and Dr. John is my favorite local musician of all time. However, it would certainly be apropos for Dr. John to play "Such a Night" at WrestleMania XXX. I'd also love to see former WCW wrestler The Maestro make a surprise appearance and have an argument with Dr. John about who's the better piano player.

Saliva

Who is Saliva? This is the rock band that performs Batista's theme song "I Walk Alone." Everything I said about wrestling fans not liking the WWE's choice of musical acts for WrestleMania would not apply to Saliva. This hard rock band also combines elements of grunge and alternative rock, which most adult wrestling fans love. And with Batista returning to the WWE, Saliva would be the perfect musical act for WrestleMania XXX.

Ying Yang Twins

Why should a hip hop group from Atlanta perform at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans? This is the group that does the song "Halftime" (which most people call "Crunk") that always plays in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome during New Orleans Saints games. I don't know if WWE fans watching WrestleMania XXX in other cities would appreciate it, but New Orleans wrestling fans in attendance would love it.

The WWE should not consider booking these musical acts for WrestleMania XXX

Justin Bieber

No. Just, no.

Miley Cyrus

There are two reasons why the WWE should not book Miley Cyrus for WrestleMania XXX. The WWE is PG and WrestleMania is live. And I don't even want to think about Miley Cyrus with one of those old "Stone Cold" Steve Austin foam middle fingers.

Aaron Neville

Just to prove I'm not a homer for every local musical act in New Orleans, I would not recommend the Big Easy's own Aaron Neville for WrestleMania XXX. Neville is a New Orleans legend who has had big hits all around the world, but let's just say that his style of singing wouldn't exactly work for a pro wrestling pay-per-view.

Kanye West

Kanye West and the WWE are related by four degrees of separation. Kanye is engaged to Kim Kardashian. Kardashian's reality show is on the E! Network. The E! Network airs Total Divas immediately following Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Total Divas is about WWE Divas. Kanye West just performed in New Orleans last month. I can only hope and pray the WWE resists the temptation to book Kanye West for WrestleMania XXX.

Patrick Michael lives in New Orleans and has always been a big fan of pro wrestling. Patrick's favorite wrestling promotion was Mid-South Wrestling back in the 1980s. Patrick's favorite wrestling angle of all-time was the NWO and his favorite wrestler is Roddy Piper. Follow Patrick Michael on Twitter at patmichael84.
