North Carolina senior receiver Mack Hollins will have season-ending surgery to repair the broken right clavicle he suffered during the Tar Heels’ 20-13 win against Miami last weekend.

The injury, which was suffered during a 49-yard reception, ends Hollins’ career at North Carolina.

“Mack has been an instrumental player in our program,” coach Larry Fedora said in a statement. “He became our special teams captain as a freshman and always took pride in making plays in that part of the game. Over the last three seasons, he has been a key component of our offense at wide receiver and has been one of our most vocal leaders. His contributions on the field will be missed, but he will continue to be involved with the program and help mentor our players.”

Hollins started his Tar Heel career as a walk on in 2013, but leaves with 81 receptions for 1,667 yards and 20 touchdowns. His 20 touchdowns rank third on UNC’s all-time list behind Quinshad Davis (25) and Hakeem Nicks (21). He has 16 catches for 309 yards and four touchdowns this season and was the Tar Heels’ best deep threat. Receivers Ryan Switzer, Bug Howard and Austin Proehl will have to fill the void.
