WR Cruz on crutches, plans to play in opener

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was wearing a walking boot and using crutches at Tuesday's practice.

Cruz said he envisions playing in the regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, calling the use of a walking boot and crutches a precaution.

"Hopefully, I can be ready," Cruz said.

Cruz worked out away from the team for most of the offseason while the two sides negotiated on and off. He signed a five-year, $43 million deal on July 18 and took his first preseason reception 57 yards for a touchdown at Pittsburgh.

That was Cruz's only reception in two preseason games. He was injured Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts.
