Wolves make it two in a row over Stars

A three-goal second period sent the Chicago Wolves to a 4-3 win over Texas on Tuesday night at Cedar Park Center, their second AHL victory over the Stars in four days.

The Wolves broke a 2-2 tie at 5:32 of the second period when Darren Archibald tipped in a cross-ice pass from forward Guillaume Desbiens for his second goal in the last two games against the Stars.

Chicago boosted its lead to 4-2 later in the period when forward Mike Davies picked up the puck at center ice and beat Texas goalie Jack Campbell on a breakaway.

The Stars closed to 4-3 in the third period with Davies serving a four-minute penalty. Texas left winger Matt Fraser beat Wolves goalie Matt Climie with a backhanded shot at 5:03.

The Wolves (28-18-4-3) scored first when defenseman Jim Vandermeer took a cross-crease pass from Steve Pinizzotto and shot into a wide-open net at 6:04 of the first period. Center Andrew Ebbett assisted on the goal to extend his point streak to eight games.

Stars center Travis Morin tied the score at 1, redirecting a shot by Fraser over Climie's right shoulder at 14:20 of the first period.

With Chicago on a power play in the second period, forward Bill Sweatt batted a puck out of the air and past Campbell at 2:27 for a 2-1 lead. The Stars (33-16-4-5) countered when right winger Tomas Vincour fired a shot past Climie at 3:23.
