Wolves 2, IceHogs 1

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- With all-star selection Brett Sterling out of the lineup, Chicago captain Darren Haydar scored two goals Friday night, leading the Wolves to a 2-1 victory over the Rockford IceHogs at the Harris Bank Center.

Haydar's second goal broke a 1-1 third-period tie with 5:48 to play. He stuffed the puck past Rockford goalie Carter Hutton on a rebound -- his ninth goal of the season -- after dumping it in the Rockford zone. He is tied for 27th among AHL leading goal-scorers.

Haydar scored the game's first goal 1:12 into the first period for Chicago (20-14-3-2). He tipped in a stray puck past Hutton through traffic.

The IceHogs (20-20-1-1) tied the game at 8:54 of the first period when defenseman Shawn Lalonde rifled a shot past Wolves goaltender Joe Cannata.

Chicago squandered a scoring chance in the second period when it failed to score during a double-minor penalty to Lalonde.

Both goalies were busy as Hutton made 31 saves and Cannata made 32.

Cannata has not allowed more than two goals in either of his AHL career starts.

Chicago returns to the AllState Arena next Saturday night following the AHL's All Star break against the Peoria Rivermen.
