CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Chicago Wolves avenged their worst defeat of the season Thursday night, defeating the Charlotte Checkers 2-1 at Time Warner Cable Arena.

In the teams' previous meeting, the Checkers earned a 5-0 win in Rosemont, Ill., on Oct. 27.

Goaltender Jake Allen (5-3-0-1) kicked out 31 shots and made several big saves late in the game for the Wolves (5-6-0-1). Defenseman David Shields led the offense with a goal and an assist, and Nathan Longpre added a goal.

Charlotte (5-5-0-1) opened scoring 4:22 into the second period. With the puck in the Wolves' zone, a shot deflected off Allen's stick to the other side of the net and Adam Brace, who tucked it behind the netminder for his first American Hockey League goal.

Shields quickly responded for Chicago, taking advantage of a delayed penalty on Charlotte to wrist a shot past Checkers goaltender John Muse. Alexandre Bolduc began the initial play, driving toward the goal to draw a call and retain possession.

The Wolves extended their lead at 18:13 of the middle period. Shields intercepted a Charlotte pass at the blueline and moved in on goal, feeding a pass toward the net to Longpre, who tapped it past Muse.

Muse (3-1-0-0) made 24 saves in his first defeat of the season. He recorded a shutout in his previous appearance against the Wolves.
