Wolverines lose backup tailback for season

The SportsXchange

Drake Johnson, Michigan's second-string tailback behind Fitzgerald Toussaint, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL while covering a kickoff in Saturday's 59-9 win over Central Michigan.

"You just hate it for Drake, but he's as tough as anyone on this football team, and he will make it back from this," Wolverines coach Brady Hoke said Monday via a statement released by the school. "He worked so hard through his redshirt season and had a really good camp ... not to mention he was a really valuable special teams player for us."

Johnson rushed for nine yards on two carries before being injured on Saturday.

Hoke probably will turn to true freshman Derrick Green to fill the void. Green, a five-star recruit, led Michigan with 58 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries against Central Michigan.
