Wisconsin running back and 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist Montee Ball was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being the victim of an "unprovoked assault."
Ball, who tied an NCAA record with 39 touchdowns last fall, is expected to make a full recovery.
"My concern right now is for Montee's health and well-being," Badgers head coach Bret Bieliema said. "Montee has been released from the hospital and is under the care and supervision of our sports medicine staff. We will continue to evaluate him as we approach the start of fall camp this weekend."
The Badgers' star running back was walking down the street when witnesses say he was jumped by five men, according to the police report. Ball was knocked to the ground and kicked before being taken to a hospital with head injuries.
Ball finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting last year after rushing for 1,923 yards.
