Wired: Detroit's new threat

Tatar, Versteeg, Killorn and more make an appearance in this week's edition of Waiver Wired

Jori Lehtera went from being owned in 14% of Yahoo leagues when he made an appearance on Waiver Wired back on Nov. 9 to 62% now. Wow. That's a significant jump. The STL Line, consisting of Jaden Schwartz, Vladimir Tarasenko and Lehtera, has been a hot commodity early into this season and they have been a major part of the Blues' offense.

And while you're at it, it's not too late to join a league and play Yahoo fantasy hockey!

We'll try to uncover more hidden gems like Lehtera this week:

Tomas Tatar (DET) - LW - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

It took Tatar some time before he got going, with one goal in his first nine games, but he's been a force offensively since then. He has generated nine goals and three helpers in past 11 contests. Tatar is now tied with Gustav Nyquist for the club lead in goals and he's riding a five-game point streak. He's formed a successful line with Justin Abdelkader and Riley Sheahan.

Kris Versteeg (CHI) - LW, RW - Owned in 13% of Yahoo leagues

Versteeg has been on a roll since being benched in Chicago's 4-1 loss to Detroit on Nov. 14. He committed a brutal turnover and finished the game with a minus-3 rating. Credit goes to coach Joel Quenneville for sticking with him and for Versteeg for stepping up afterward. He has earned two goals and four assists in his past three contests. Versteeg has been clicking on a line with Patrick Kane and Brad Richards. Snatch him while you can.

Alex Killorn (TBL) - C, LW - Owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues

Despite missing eight games this year due to injury, Killorn has remained a solid offensive contributor for the Lightning. Tampa Bay has received plenty of depth scoring and Killorn's effectiveness has allowed him to see time alongside Steve Stamkos and Ryan Callahan. He's played with Stamkos in the past and the results have been good. He scored on Saturday to extend his goal streak to four straight contests. Killorn has six goals, three assists and 27 shots in 14 games. His 22.2 shooting percentage is bound to regress, but he has the skill to be a 20-goal scorer and if he can iron out a spot alongside Stamkos then 50 points is well within his reach.

Nick Bjugstad (FLA) - C - Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues

Bjugstad led the Panthers in scoring last season with 38 points in 76 games. Florida's offense has struggled again this year, but it has been a bit better recently and Bjugstad has been firing on all cylinders. He has five goals and three assists during a four-game point streak to put him one point behind Jussi Jokinen for the team lead. He also ranks first on the club with 53 shots. Bjugstad centers the Panthers' first line between Brad Boyes and Jonathan Huberdeau.

Ryan Strome (NYI) - C, RW - Owned in 16% of Yahoo leagues

Strome skated in 37 games with the Islanders last season and he accounted for seven goals and 18 points. Even though he's averaging slightly less ice time this year, the 21-year-old forward is well on his way to proving he belongs at the NHL level. He already has four goals and 11 assists in 20 games, which includes eight points in his past eight matches. Strome has also contributed a plus-9 rating and 43 shots on goal. He has displayed some chemistry with Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey, but it's encouraging to see that he can produce with several different linemates.

Cody Eakin (DAL) - C - Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Eakin chipped in 35 points for the Stars last season, while playing with junkyard dogs Ryan Garbutt and Antoine Roussel. For the past few games, he's been playing with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Eakin has been outstanding since the promotion, with two goals and three assists in his past three games. He didn't have a point in eight outings before his recent surge. Snatch up Eakin and dress him for as long as he's playing with Dallas' dynamic duo.

Markus Granlund (CGY) - C - Owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues

Granlund has stepped up for the Flames since being recalled from the minors at the end of October. Calgary has hit hard down the middle this season with injuries to Mikael Backlund, Joe Colborne and Matt Stajan, but Granlund has proven to be an excellent replacement. He's been centering Jiri Hudler and Johnny Gaudreau, which has helped him rack up three goals and nine points in 11 games. Granlund has enjoyed two separate three-game point streaks and he has shown that he's more than deserving of an NHL roster spot. He still could use some work on his faceoffs (37.2%), but the 21-year-old forward is someone to look at if you're in a deep league.

John Klingberg (DAL) - D - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Klingberg has exceeded expectations since joining the Dallas Stars earlier this month. He has registered two goals and four assists during a four-game point streak, while averaging 23:36 of ice time per game. The 22-year-old defender has great offensive skills. He had 12 points in 10 AHL contests with Texas before heading to the NHL and it's highly unlikely that he's going back. The Stars were hoping that Klingberg would be successful at the big-league level, especially since prior to the acquisition of Jason Demers, he was the team's only right-handed shooter on the blueline. He's proven to be a solid defender and his role on the power play is expanding. Target him in standard leagues and grab him for keeper formats as well.

Robin Lehner (OTT) - G - Owned in 38% of Yahoo leagues

Using a busy schedule and anticipating goalie starts is a great way to take advantage of waivers. The Ottawa Senators play two back-to-back situations this coming week. During their four-game road trip, the Sens visit Detroit (Monday) and St. Louis (Tuesday) before playing against Florida on Friday and Tampa Bay on Saturday. It's probable that Lehner and Craig Anderson could split those games evenly, which would make him worthy of a pickup.

Thomas Greiss (PIT) - G - Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues

The Penguins play four games next week as well, but Pittsburgh has one back-to-back. The club will play a home-and-home series against Carolina on Friday and Saturday. Greiss could get in the crease for one of those contests and it's possible that he will face Toronto again on Wednesday after he stopped 30 of 31 shots in a 2-1 victory versus the Leafs on Nov. 14. Greiss has been solid year with a .924 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average and getting him some extra work could be in the cards.
