    Winthrop's balance beats SE Louisiana 66-52

    ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- Joab Jerome scored 14 points and four Winthrop teammates finished in double figures as the Eagles defeated Southeastern Louisiana 66-52 Saturday in a nonconference game.

    The victory was the Eagles' 300th at Winthrop Coliseum.

    Jerome hit just 1 of 5 field goal attempts. But he sank 12 of 17 free throw attempts, two less than the 14 the Lions made. Winthrop (12-15) made 23 of 33 at the line, those 33 attempts a season high. Southeastern Louisiana (10-15) was 14 for 18.

    Winthrop led 33-32 at halftime. In the second half, the Eagles went on a 17-5 run to lead 56-42.

    Gideon Gamble scored 13 points for Winthrop. Three others - Andre Smith, Steven Johnson and Christian Farmer - finished with 12 points apiece.

    Dre Evans was the only Lion in double figures with 11 points. Leading scorer Brandon Fortenberry was held to 4 points. The Lions committed 17 turnovers.
