Winnipeg's Kane suffers leg injury, status day-to-day

The SportsXchange

Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane suffered an unspecified injury during practice Wednesday morning, according to NHL.com, less than 12 hours after the Jets were shut out by the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night 3-0.

The report said Kane was favoring his right leg and did not return to the ice for the remainder of practice after he went to the locker room for examination and treatment.

Kane reportedly either got tangled up or crashed into fellow forward Anthony Peluso.

"He got a tweak in practice and he'll get assessed sometime today. We'll go from there," Jets coach Claude Noel said after the practice session. "[He's] day-to-day right now."

The Jets' next game is Friday, when they host the St. Louis Blues.

If Kane is lost for any amount of time, it would be a big blow to the Jets, particularly scoring. The 22-year-old is tied for the team lead with three goals thus far this season.

Winnipeg has scored four goals in the first three games of a six-game homestand and has gone 1-2 in that stretch.

"I don't think anybody is happy with the way we're playing. The level of joy is low," Noel said. "I think that we need to change. If players can't seem to change the way things go, then things will change around them. It's that simple."
