Due to a lack of sponsorship, Red Horse Racing's #7 Truck team with John King as the driver, has suspended operations after five events in 2012. John King was the rookie-winning victor of the Camping World Truck series opener at Daytona in February.
Three months ago, John King made headlines when the relatively unknown 23 year old driver came from nowhere to win the crashed-filled NextEra Energy Resources 250 - the series opener for the Camping World Truck series. It was his first race ever at the famed Daytona International Speedway. He was going for Rookie of the Year honors and after two races, King was sitting first in the point standings.
Crashes with bad finishes
But after a crash at Rockingham and ensuing 33rd place, he had dropped to eighth (source - Red Horse Racing) which is where he stayed after a 13th at Kansas in the fourth contest on the schedule. Then early-on at Charlotte, King backed his Truck into the wall, which ended his night with another 33rd place finish.
Subsequently, King dropped out of the Top 10 (13th overall in standings) heading into Dover and the Lucas Oil 200 Friday night. King is second amongst rookies but he and his car won't be in Delaware.
The team doesn't say anything other than "due to lack of sponsorship" and "currently ranked 13th in championship points after crashing out en route to a 33rd place finish in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte." Two crashes with 33rd place finishes couldn't have helped the situation.
Two of his teammates will continue to run: Timothy Peters and Todd Bodine. Peters is currently second in points while Bodine is ninth. The team has raced since '05 and managing general partner is Tom DeLoach.
A season that started off so good has come crashing down on the 24 year old rookie but let's hope a corporate partnership can be found and John King can get back out in a Truck soon.
