This year's Wimbledon singles champions will earn $2.4 million in prize money, as the All England Club announced a 40-percent increase in 2013 winnings.
Wimbledon also announced that it plans to build a retractable roof on Court No. 1, as it hopes to combat inclement weather that has delayed the tournament in previous seasons.
Winnings will total $34.4 million, or $9.9 million more than last year. Wimbledon officials said it was the largest single increase and biggest total prize fund in the history of professional tennis.
For singles, the champions will see a 39 percent boost from the $1.75 million that Roger Federer and Serena Williams earned last year.
