Wild's Brodin sidelined with broken cheekbone

The SportsXchange

Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin is out indefinitely with a broken cheekbone, the team announced Wednesday.

Brodin was struck in the face by a puck on Tuesday night early in the first period of a game against the Nashville Predators.

"It was gruesome to watch," Wild coach Mike Yeo said on the team's website. "It's disappointing."

The 20-year-old had three goals and six assists in his first 10 games this season to lead Wild defenseman in scoring. Last season, he had 11 points (two goals, nine assists) as a rookie.

The Wild expects to learn more by Thursday about Brodin's recovery and projected return date.

In the meantime, Nate Prosser will take Brodin's spot in the lineup. Prosser has played in two games this season and has no points.
