White Sox lose Viciedo, recall Tekotte

The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Dayan Viciedo on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a strained left oblique.

The club recalled outfielder Blake Tekotte from Class AAA Charlotte to take Viciedo's spot on the roster. The move is retroactive to Friday.

Viciedo was injured Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays while batting. He is batting .229 with two home runs and five RBI in 13 games.

Tekotte, who had been out with a hamstring injury, went 0 for 2 at the plate in his season debut Friday for Charlotte.

--- The Cleveland Indians announced Saturday that they activated left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir from the 15-day disabled list and optioned infielder Cord Phelps to Class AAA Columbus.

Kazmir was on the DL with an abdominal strain. He was scheduled to make his season debut Saturday night at the Houston Astros.

Also, starting pitcher Brett Myers will fly back to Cleveland to have his forearm examined. Myers has given up 10 home runs and has been complaining of tendinitis.

--- The Houston Astros on Saturday placed outfielder J.D. Martinez on the 15-day disabled list after he sprained his right knee in a 3-2 win against the Indians on Friday.

Martinez, 25, was batting .244 with two home runs and seven RBI.

To replace Martinez on the roster, the Astros activated outfielder Fernando Martinez, who went on the DL on March 27 with a strained left oblique. In 41 games with the Astros in 2012, Martinez hit.237 with six home runs and 14 RBI.

--- The Atlanta Braves placed infielder Blake DeWitt on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a lower back strain and recalled right-hander David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

Carpenter, 27, has pitched in 68 major league games in the past two seasons with the Astros and Blue Jays. He went 1-3 with a 2.98 ERA in 34 games in 2011, including one save. He had a 6.07 ERA in 30 games for the Astros last year before getting traded to Toronto. Last October Toronto traded Carpenter to Boston in the deal that included manager John Farrell. The Braves claimed him off waivers on Nov. 30.

DeWitt had been with the Braves since Freddie Freeman went on the disabled list two weeks ago with a strained oblique. Freeman is set to rejoin the Braves on Monday.
