ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale wasn't as impressive on Friday night as he was in his previous outing, but he was good enough.

Sale held the Los Angeles Angels to three hits while striking out a season-high 12 in a 3-0 victory at Angel Stadium.

In his last start -- also against the Angels -- Sale tossed a one-hit shutout after retiring the first 19 batters he faced.

"He pitched a strong game," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of Sale's victory in Chicago on May 12. "We hit a couple of balls hard early, but they didn't find the holes."

The Angels still haven't found them.

They had better success this time with the three hits, but when it came to scoring runs, it was the same story. And for Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson, who was the losing pitcher against Sale last week, it was more of the same.

The White Sox figured three runs were enough for the victory, as evidenced by Sale's last start. Alex Rios hit a home run in the first inning and it was really all Sale needed to post his fourth consecutive decision and improve to 5-2 overall.

Rios entered the game with a career .267 batting average against Wilson. After his home run and third-inning single, his average against Wilson had swelled to .353.

Sale worked out of a minor jam as early in the first inning. Mike Trout drew a one-out walk, stole second base with two outs and scrambled to third when catcher Tyler Flower's throw bounced into center field. Sale ended the inning by getting Josh Hamilton to pop out to first.

The Angels also put single runners on base in the second, fourth, fifth and seventh but couldn't get the hit to bring them home. Mark Trumbo was the only other Angels runner to get into scoring position after the first inning, when he legged out a double in the fourth. But Sale struck out Hamilton and Howie Kendrick to end the threat.

The White Sox added their second run in the seventh when Dayan Viciedo singled with one out, took second one a grounder by Jeff Keppinger and scored on a hit by Conor Gillaspie.

Wilson left the game after seven innings and 113 pitches.

Adam Dunn capped the scoring with a line-drive home run in the ninth off Angels reliever Garrett Richards.

Sale worked 7 2/3 innings and ran his record against American League West teams to 10-0 while lowering his ERA against the division from 2.79 to 2.55.

NOTES: Angels RHP Jered Weaver threw 60 pitches in a simulated game on Friday. Weaver has been on the disabled list since April 8 with a broken left (non-throwing) elbow. ...
