White Lives Matter Protest Held Outside Houston NAACP
Roughly 20 White Lives Matter protestors stood outside a Houston NAACP Sunday (August 21) some waving Confederate flags and some holding assault riffles, to condemn the 107 year old organization.
“We came out here specifically today to protest against the NAACP and their failure in speaking out against the atrocities that organizations like Black Lives Matter and other pro-black organizations have caused the attack and killing of white police officers, the burning down of cities and things of that nature,” organizer Ken Reed told the Houston Chronicle. “If they’re going to be a civil rights organization and defend their people, they also need to hold their people accountable.”
Reed alleges that despite some members carrying riffles he along with the other protestors weren’t there to agitate members of the predominately black community or the NAACP.
“Obviously we are exercising our Second Amendment rights but that’s because we have to defend ourselves,” he said. “Their organizations and their people are shooting people based on the color of their skin. We’re not.”
The protest comes after several Dallas police officers were shot and killed in what was retaliation for the death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minneapolis.
The demonstration, which took place in Houston’s Third Ward, quickly birthed a counter protest, which ended the initial White Lives Matter.
