She was absent from the first big black tie event of the pre-swearing-in hoopla Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.

Trump, along with top aide Kellyanne Conway, VP-elect Mike Pence and his wife all attended, but Melania was nowhere to be found.

She stayed behind at Trump Tower in New York, and is expected to fly down to the capital Thursday with her husband and the rest of the family.

She'll stay through the weekend and reportedly return to Trump Tower Sunday night in time for her 10-year-old son, Baron, to start school.

“Melania has put her foot down and said she is not going to move to the White House right now, but i think there will be pressure because that is where the American people will want their first lady to be,” White House historian Kate Anderson Brower told Inside Edition.

Many are speculating what the future first lady will wear on Inauguration Day.

Women's Wear Daily reports it’s likely to be Ralph Lauren, whose dress she wore on election night.

Karl Lagerfeld is also said to be a frontrunner.

In an interview with Fox & Friends Wednesday morning, the president-elect was asked about designer Tom Ford, who has said he wouldn’t dress Melania.

“Did she even ask him? No. And she does not like Tom Ford and never has," he said.
