‘Westworld’ Characters Ranked From Worst to Best (Photos)

Over the past ten weeks, “Westworld” has quietly been fulfilling HBO’s grand scheme to continue dominating the Sunday nights of TV buffs worldwide. That’s thanks in large part to a cast that, from top to bottom, has never ceased to intrigue us with their secrets and schemes. But which characters have left us dying for more next year?

17.) Logan — A disgusting, amoral heel of a human being who just keeps finding new ways to increase his scumbag level with every new episode. As tragic as it is to see his machinations finally get to William, at least Logan is about to pay a heavy price for it.

16.) Sizemore — Exhibit B of loudmouth jerks who get cut down to size. Sizemore loves to abuse the worker drones under his charge, but rolls up like a burrito tortilla when someone higher on the Westworld ladder shoots down his plans.

15.) Armistice — She’s a ruthless gunslinger with a sweet tattoo and incredible accuracy…but she’s a host, and unlike Maeve, she hasn’t broken free. That makes her ultimately a paper tiger.

14.) Ashley Stubbs — Stubbs is mostly there to advance other characters’ storylines, from Elsie’s investigations to Bernard and Theresa’s affair. But now that he’s been taken by the Ghost Nation, maybe there’s something in store for him.

13.) Hector — He’s mostly been around to provide the mandated HBO ultraviolence, but the moment where he discovers Maeve’s safe is empty is a powerful one indeed. Looks like Hector’s supposed nihilistic view of the world was just an act…or a program.

12.) Theresa — She thought she was a major player in the proverbial chess match for control of Westworld. Instead, she was nothing more than Ford’s pawn.

11.) Lawrence — “Westworld” really knows how to swerve us hard. This show made us pity Lawrence as he was abused by The Man In Black. Then it jolted us as it revealed how dangerous he could truly be when he was one of the most powerful black hat hosts in the park.

10.) Charlotte — When one of your scenes involves you discussing your villainous master plan immediately after a round of rough sex with an android, you don’t need to show up until the second half of the season.

9.) Elsie — Poor Elsie. Her resourcefulness and determination made her the most likable of the human park staff, but her paranoia ironically seems to have led to her demise after she decided not to get help when she discovered what her bosses were up to. But is she really dead, or are the visions we saw of Bernard killing her a trick?

8.) Clementine — While Elsie’s fate remains foggy, Clementine’s tragic fate has played out with a terrible finality. A life of being attacked, objectified, and manipulated ended with her taking a new position as a lobotomized puppet to be controlled by the park owners.

7.) Teddy — He may be the Kenny McCormick of Westworld, but at least he dies with style. Teddy is a great deconstruction of the heroic cowboy archetype, constantly getting outsmarted while the damsel he tries to save takes matters into her own hands.

6.) Ford — Boy, is it great to have Anthony Hopkins back. Not since Hannibal has he had a role this delicious. A devious manipulator whose motives and abilities are slowly revealed and whose composure appears to be unshakeable. Ford said in Westworld that he was a god. He may be right.

5.) William — What a road William has taken. The mild-mannered, shy white hat has been humiliated one time too many by his brother-in-law, and now it seems that all those theories about who he becomes are about to be proven right. But don’t be surprised if William’s tale has one last surprise in store.

4.) The Man In Black — Possibly the biggest mystery “Westworld” has to offer, The Man In Black has spent the whole season alternatively dishing out brutal killings and cryptic clues to the backstories of the hosts and his fellow guests. For the fan theory crowd, he’s been an endless font of fun, as everyone has come up with their own idea of who he is and the secrets he’s hiding behind his words.

3.) Bernard — Anyone who has seen his work in the Bond franchise knows Jeffrey Wright is brilliant. Now the whole world knows thanks to his quiet, emotional performance as the intelligent and thoughtful Bernard. It’s a credit to Wright’s performance that the big reveal of his true identity is such a gut punch even though loads of fans have been expecting it for weeks.

2.) Dolores — “Westworld” is, at its heart, a story about Dolores. All the show’s themes about artificial intelligence, human morality, philosophy, etc. are tied together in her and brought to life by Evan Rachel Wood’s

1.) Maeve — Let’s be real. Maeve is the real star of “Westworld.” She gets lines that would make Peter Dinklage jealous, makes park employees shake at the sight of her, and faces danger with breathtaking courage. Please let her survive to season 2.
