TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Terrance West rushed for five touchdowns, tying a school record, and Towson routed Delaware State 49-7 in its home opener on Saturday night.
West, who now has a program-best 52 career rushing touchdowns, scored four times in the first half as the Tigers took a 35-0 lead. His five touchdowns tie a record set by Tony Vinson in 1993. West finished with 82 yards on 16 carries.
Derrick Joseph returned a kickoff 95 yards for a TD for Towson.
The victory was the seventh straight for the Tigers (3-0) over two seasons, the second-best streak in the FCS behind North Dakota State (11).
Delaware State (0-2) scored its only touchdown on Cory Murphy's 6-yard pass to Milton Williams. Murphy attempted 53 passes, completing 26 for 234 yards, as the Hornets had only 15 yards rushing.
The teams renewed a rivalry that ran for 15 consecutive years before ending in 1994.
