Western Michigan fired coach Bill Cubit after a 29-23 home loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
"Our vision and mission is winning division and conference titles and growing our number of postseason bowls," Western Michigan athletic director Kathy Beauregard said. "We continue to value student-athlete success academically and expect them to be great citizens in this community."
Western Michigan's loss was its fifth in six games. The Broncos finished the season 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the Mid-American Conference.
Cubit was 51-47 overall and 36-27 in the MAC in eight seasons that included three bowl appearances. He previously was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Stanford (2003-04), Rutgers (2001-02) and Missouri (2000).
