KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Charlie Westbrook scored a career-best 32 points and South Dakota ended a three-game slide with a 76-57 victory over UMKC on Saturday night.
Westbrook sank 10 of 18 shots, including 3 3-pointers, and 9 of 11 free throws.
Louie Krogman added 16 points, and Trevor Gruis had his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Coyotes (6-9, 1-5 Summit League). It was their first league victory, as they joined the Summit this season.
Reggie Chamberlain scored 19 points and Thomas Staton 10 for the Kangaroos (7-11, 1-5), who lost their sixth in a row.
Trailing 27-17, UMKC used a 14-3 spurt keyed by eight points from Chamberlain to forge a 31-30 edge. But South Dakota regained a 36-33 lead at halftime.
Westbrook's layup with 13:08 remaining raised the Coyotes' lead to 54-44, and the advantage never fell into single figures after that.
