Welker says his comments were a joke

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker said on Monday he was joking when he made comments on Sunday that sounded like a dig at Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

"Yeah, it's kind of nice to stick it in Bill's face once in a while. So this is definitely a good one," Welker said when asked if he enjoyed catching 13 passes in Sunday's victory over Denver.

When asked about the comments on Monday, Welker said, according to NFL.com, "It was a joke. I don't know what to else say about it ... Bill and I have a good relationship."

Belichick didn't have much to say when asked on Monday what Welker meant by his comments.

"You should ask (Welker) about it then, what he meant by it. I don't know," he said.
