The PFW staff says underutilized Titans TE Jared Cook could be on the verge of a breakout in our Week Seven fantasy tips.
There hasn’t been a more underutilized member of the Titans’ offense than TE Jared Cook, who, despite posing major matchup problems with his size and athleticism, has been targeted just 32 times in six games. However, Cook could be ready to break through. He showed up when it mattered most in Week Six against the Steelers with a 25-yard reception on his team’s final drive, which helped set up a game-winning field goal. Cook caught all four of the passes thrown his direction and should see even more chances Sunday against the Bills.
TE Owen Daniels holds the Texans’ lead for receptions (26) and receiving TDs (three) and should be ready to build on those numbers Sunday against a Baltimore “D” without arguably its three best defenders. Expect QB Matt Schaub to target Daniels in the middle of the field when he draws backup MLB Dannell Ellerbe in coverage. Daniels should be in your lineup this week.
Steelers TE Heath Miller continues to be a starter-caliber fantasy performer, especially in bigger leagues. He’s tied for the team lead in TD catches (four), and he’s caught 25-of-34 passes thrown his way for 237 yards in five games. Miller’s four TD receptions are as many as he had in the 2010 and ’11 regular seasons combined.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham has been fairly quiet vs. the Steelers in three career games (one TD), but the Steelers’ pass defense isn’t as strong as it was a season ago, and Gresham is one of the key targets in an improved Cincinnati passing attack. All things considered, he’s a decent starting option in Week Seven.
Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew holds some appeal in Week Seven for the same reason teammate WR Nate Burleson intrigues: if the Bears pay close attention to Calvin Johnson, Pettigrew could become a key secondary option for QB Matthew Stafford.
The Titans have been unable to successfully cover tight ends this season. Last week, the Steelers’ Heath Miller had six catches for 67 yards, and he became the fifth tight end to notch at least six catches vs. Tennessee this season. That should mean good things for Bills TE Scott Chandler, who has four touchdown catches this season.
The Saints could be without TE Jimmy Graham Sunday vs. the Buccaneers. Graham missed practice Wednesday with a sprained ankle and fantasy owners with Graham on their roster need to keep an eye on his status over the weekend if the team does not rule him out ahead of Sunday.
Panthers TE Greg Olsen has had a couple clunkers for fantasy owners this season (including a 2-37-0 outing in Week Five) but we still like him as a quality low-end No. 1 TE option this week. He's averaging 4.4 catches for 58.6 yards per game and has the potential to post solid numbers vs. the Cowboys.
