Week 8 Looks/Touches

The following is a list of the Week 8 leaders in looks and touches. It defines those running backs and receivers who received the most attention this past weekend.

Touches is defined as the number of times a running back carried or caught the football.
Looks is defined as the number of times a player was the intended target of a pass.

TOUCHES

Larry Johnson's 41 touches (39 carries, two catches) in Week 8 were the highest single-game total for a player so far this season. The resulting 181 yards of offense (155 rushing, 26 receiving) brought his season total to a league-leading 973 (644 rushing, 329 receiving). Johnson vaulted previous leader Tiki Barber, thanks to Barber's sub-par performance against the Buccaneers – Barber managed just 88 yards of offense (68 rushing, 20 receiving) on his 29 touches (26 carries, three catches), bringing his season totals to 957 yards (715 rushing, 242 receiving) on 184 touches (155 carries, 29 catches).
LaDainian Tomlinson also moved past Barber in total offense this past week, as his 240 yards of offense (183 rushing, 57 receiving) on 28 touches (25 carries, three catches) gave him totals of 959 yards (656 rushing, 303 receiving) on 185 touches (150 carries, 35 catches). His 240 yards of offense represent the highest single-game total in the NFL this season.
The Browns called Reuben Droughns' number early and often against the Jets in Week 8. Droughns had season highs in touches (35), carries (33), total offense (132 yards), and rushing yards (125), while scoring his second touchdown of the season.
Perhaps Jamal Lewis' season will take a turn for the better. In the first game in which coach Brian Billick also called the offensive plays, Lewis recorded season-highs in carries (31, 10 more than his previous high) and rushing yards (109). It was the first 100-yard game of the season for Lewis, who has not scored a touchdown since Week 1.
Wali Lundy and Joseph Addai made strong cases in Week 8 for remaining their teams' featured backs in future games. Lundy totaled 149 yards of offense (116 rushing, 33 receiving) on 23 touches (18 carries, five receptions), while Addai had 130 yards (93 rushing, 37 receiving) on 22 touches (17 carries, five receptions).
The platoon watch notes when a team's RB2 is given at least half as many touches as the RB1, regardless of the reason. Platoon watch for Week 8 included: Atlanta (Warrick Dunn 22, Jerious Norwood 12), Denver (Mike Bell 16, Tatum Bell 13), Jacksonville (Maurice Jones-Drew 24, Fred Taylor 16), New Orleans (Reggie Bush 9, Deuce McAllister 7), and Tampa Bay (Carnell Williams 13, Michael Pittman 7).
Vernand Morency topped the yards-per-touch leaderboard in Week 8, as he rushed for 101 yards on his 11 carries (no receptions), a 9.18-yard average. Travis Henry undoubtedly left a slew of disappointed fantasy owners in his Week 8 wake as he managed just a 1.93-yard average on his 15 carries (no receptions), giving him the lowest average among players with at least 10 touches.

LOOKS

Andre Johnson keeps on piling up the looks and stats. His 18 looks in Week 8 were a season high, but was the fourth time in five games that he's been targeted at least 13 times. While his 81 looks on the season are third-most in the league, he leads the league in both catches (56) and receiving yards (669).
A number of players at the top of the looks leaderboard registered their season-bests in a number of categories: Tony Romo's first start at quarterback for the Cowboys led to season highs in looks (16), catches (9), and receiving yards (107) for Terrell Owens; "controversial" rookie Marques Colston had his most looks (14), receiving yards (163), and touchdowns (2); Ben Watson finally had the game many assumed would be a regular occurrence this season, with highs in looks (13), catches (7), receiving yards (95), and scored his first touchdown; and Reggie Wayne topped previous season-high marks in looks (11), catches (10), receiving yards (138), and touchdowns (3).
Owen Daniels didn't just have his best game of the season – he doubled many of his to-date numbers in one fell swoop. He had 11 looks despite entering the week with 16 total; he had nine receptions entering the game, and did in fact double that season total; he had 84 yards receiving in the season's first seven weeks, but topped that mark by 15 in Week 8 alone; he had three touchdowns entering the week, and added two more to his total.
Anquan Boldin continued to be Matt Leinart's main target this past week, but turned in a second consecutive disappoint performance. Over the past two weeks Boldin has been targeted 24 times, but has just eight catches, 106 yards, and no touchdowns to show for it.
