Week 7 Looks/ Touches

The following is a list of the Week 7 leaders in looks and touches. It defines those running backs and receivers who received the most attention this past weekend.

Touches is defined as the number of times a running back carried or caught the football.
Looks is defined as the number of times a player was the intended target of a pass.

TOUCHES

Tiki Barber continues to pile up the touches and yardage – his 647 rushing yards lead the league, as do his 869 rushing/receiving yards, and his 155 touches through Week 7 are good for sixth in the league. What is astonishing is the fact that Barber still has yet to score a touchdown. The Giants have scored 13 times through the air and three times on the ground, with Brandon Jacobs having all three of the team's rushing touchdowns to his credit.
Larry Johnson's workload and subsequent production have been anything but consistent so far this season. In the three games he's had more than 30 touches (Weeks 2, 4, and 7) he's totaled 470 yards (359 rushing, 111 receiving) and four touchdowns on 96 touches (85 carries, 11 receptions). In his three other games (Weeks 1, 5, and 6) he's totaled 322 yards (130 rushing, 192 receiving) and two touchdowns on 62 touches (48 carries, 14 receptions).
Wali Lundy has returned as the Texans' running back of choice after not seeing game action for three straight weeks. Lundy totaled 108 yards (93 rushing, 15 receiving) and a touchdown on 23 touches (19 carries, four catches) against Jacksonville, replacing a largely ineffective Samkon Gado in the second quarter.
Willie Parker's game log is not a thing of beauty. In three Steelers home games, Parker has totaled 357 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and in three games on the road, he's totaled 124 rushing yards and one score.
The platoon watch notes when a team's RB2 is given at least half as many touches as the RB1, regardless of the reason. Platoon watch for Week 7 included: Dallas (Julius Jones 14, Marion Barber III 7), Houston (Wali Lundy 23, Samkon Gado 13), Indianapolis (Dominic Rhodes 14, Joseph Addai 12), Jacksonville (Fred Taylor 17, Maurice Jones-Drew 15), New England (Corey Dillon 14, Laurence Maroney 9), New York Jets (Leon Washington 21, Kevan Barlow 12), and Washington (Clinton Portis 16, Ladell Betts 15).
Brian Westbrook was the yards-per-touch leader among those in double figures in Week 7, totaling 214 yards (101 rushing, 113 receiving) on 20 touches (13 carries, seven catches), good for a 10.7-yard average. On the season, Westbrook's 795 yards of offense (462 rushing, 333 receiving) are second in the league while his 114 touches (84 carries, 30 receptions) are just the 17th-highest total. Dominic Rhodes averaged just 2.29 yards on his 14 touches (13 carries, one reception), worst among players who touched the ball at least 10 times.

LOOKS

Antonio Gates became the first non-wide receiver to top the looks leaderboard in a given week, as he was a target of 15 of Philip Rivers' career-high 43 passes. Gates' production has improved noticeably after a slow start – he's scored in three straight games, totaling 17 catches, 29 looks, and 196 yards in the process. He recorded 10 catches, 18 looks, 122 receiving yards, and one score in his first three games.
Randy Moss finally had a big game for the Raiders, catching seven of his 14 looks for 129 yards and a score. Maybe, just maybe, this will be something for Moss, Andrew Walter, and the previously winless Raiders to build on. On the opposite side of the field, Anquan Boldin managed just four catches for 59 yards despite 13 looks, a disappointing follow-up to his explosive performance against the Bears in Week 6.
Say the following out loud, as matter-of-factly as possible, and see how strange it sounds coming out of your mouth. Mike Furrey is having a better fantasy season than Chad Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Donald Driver, Joe Horn, Randy Moss, and Drew Bennett (to name a few).
Hines Ward made up for missing production in one fell swoop on Sunday, with season-highs of 12 looks and eight catches resulting in career-highs 171 yards and three touchdowns. Over the past two games, the Steelers have netted 653 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 passing attempts.
Reggie Williams undoubtedly had a lot of fantasy owners counting on a big game against Houston's porous pass defense. After totaling 15 looks, eight catches, 147 receiving yards, and three touchdowns in his previous two games, Williams was targeted just four times and did not record a catch.
