Week 13 Looks/Touches

The following is a list of the Week 13 leaders in looks and touches. It defines those running backs and receivers who received the most attention this past weekend.

Touches is defined as the number of times a running back carried or caught the football.
Looks is defined as the number of times a player was the intended target of a pass.

TOUCHES

Despite his ridiculously spectacular production thus far, Week 13 marked the first time that LaDainian Tomlinson topped the touches leaderboard since the first week of the season. And, of course, his production was once again phenomenal. Tomlinson totaled 192 yards of offense (178 rushing, 14 receiving) on his 31 touches (28 carries, three catches) and scored two more touchdowns. Tomlinson's per-game production over the past six weeks has been a staggering 179.2 yards of offense and three touchdowns per game.
Ladell Betts has certainly proven up to the task of filling in for Clinton Portis. Betts recorded his second consecutive 100-yard game in Week 13, as he rushed for 155 yards on 28 carries, and added 18 yards on three receptions. In the four games in which he's had at least 15 carries this season, Betts has totaled 466 rushing yards on 88 carries, a 5.3-yard average. In the four games in which Portis had at least 15 carries, he totaled 358 yards on 85 carries, a 4.2-yard average.
Speaking of a capable fill-in, DeAngelo Williams was just that for DeShaun Foster in Week 13, doing his best Brian Westbrook impersonation as the Panthers faced the Eagles. Williams totaled 175 yards (74 rushing, 101 receiving) on his 24 touches (17 carries, seven receptions) and scored a touchdown.
The platoon watch notes when a team's RB2 is given at least half as many touches as the RB1, regardless of the reason. Platoon watch for Week 13 included: Chicago (Thomas Jones 12, Cedric Benson 9), Cleveland (Reuben Droughns 19, Jason Wright 13), Dallas (Julius Jones 12, Marion Barber III 12), Green Bay (Ahman Green 18, Vernand Morency 9), Houston (Ron Dayne 19, Wali Lundy 11), Indianapolis (Joseph Addai 17, Dominic Rhodes 17), Miami (Sammy Morris 15, Travis Minor 9), Minnesota (Chester Taylor 18, Ciatrick Fason 13), New England (Corey Dillon 10, Kevin Faulk 8), New Orleans (Deuce McAllister 27, Reggie Bush 19), and Oakland (Justin Fargas 15, ReShard Lee 11).
ReShard Lee led all players with at least 10 touches in yards per touch in Week 13. Seeing his first extended action of the season, Lee totaled 99 yards of offense (42 rushing, 57 receiving) on 11 touches (six carries, five catches), good for a 9.00-yard average. Jerious Norwood also deserves mention here, as he finished with 107 yards rushing on nine carries (no receptions), an 11.89-yard average. Willis McGahee struggled mightily against the San Diego rush defense and finished last in yards-per touch among qualifiers – McGahee totaled 27 yards (26 rushing, one receiving) on his 17 touches (16 carries, one catch), a 1.59-yard average.

LOOKS

Chris Chambers, who has largely been a disappointment this season, registered season-highs in looks (15), catches (8), and receiving yards (121) in Week 13. Although Chambers' 123 looks to date are the third-most in the league, his 52 receptions rank 29th among wide receivers and his 611 receiving yards are just 36th among wideouts.
Reche Caldwell turned in his best performance of the season, with season-highs in looks (14), catches (8), and receiving yards (12). Caldwell has emerged as a regular target of Tom Brady over the past four weeks – during that time Caldwell has averaged 8.8 looks, 5.8 receptions, and 83.3 yards, while scoring two touchdowns.
Mike Furrey just keeps on getting it done. He was targeted at least 12 times for the second consecutive week, and his 101 looks on the season is 16th in the league. His 65 receptions gave him a 64.4 percent catch rate, tops among players with at least 100 looks on the season.
Tony Gonzalez's fantasy owners should be fairly enthused now that Trent Green is back to running the show for Kansas City. In the three games that Gonzalez and Green have played together, Gonzalez has averaged 9.0 looks, 7.7 receptions, 73.7 receiving yards, and 1.0 touchdown. In the eight games in which Damon Huard was the team's quarterback, Gonzo averaged 6.4 looks, 4.3 catches, 63.4 receiving yards, and 0.3 touchdowns.
