Wedge will not manage Mariners in 2014

Eric Wedge notified the Seattle Mariners that he has decided not to return to manage the Mariners in 2014, the team announced Friday.

He and the Mariners agreed that he will manage the team for the final three games of this season and will fulfill the remainder of his contract, which expires October 31.

The 2013 season was Wedge's third with the Mariners.

Executive Vice President and General Manager Jack Zduriencik said, "I accept Eric's decision not to return and thank him for his hard work here the past three years. I want to wish him and his family all the best in the future."

Entering Friday's games, the Mariners had a record of 70-89 and were in fourth place in the American League West. The Mariners finished last in their division in 2012 with a 75-87 record and were last in 2011 with a 67-95 mark.
