The first qualifying round for the PBA Senior Mooresville Classic was completed on Monday, May 7, and Wayne Webb is currently leading the tournament. The Mooresville Classic is the third tournament in the Senior tour season, and Webb is looking to win his first title this season. Webb was the Player of the Year on the Senior tour in 2010, but has not won a title since that season. Wayne Webb is off to a great start, but he will have to continue the great bowling for a few more days to end his title drought.
All 145 entrants in the PBA Senior Mooresville Classic completed eight games of qualifying on Monday, and Wayne Webb was able to average over 250 in these eight games. All of the bowlers will complete eight more games of qualifying on Tuesday, May 8, to determine who advances in the tournament. After the second qualifying round is complete, the top 32 bowlers will advance to the match play round of the tournament. These 32 bowlers will compete in single elimination head-to-head matches until the tournament winner is decided. Wayne Webb already has had an impressive career, but he will be looking to add another title to his resume. The 20 titles on the PBA tour and 5 titles on the Senior tour have allowed Wayne Webb to already be inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame. When a proven winner is bowling this great, he is always going to be tough to beat.
Wayne Webb is one of the most talented bowlers on the PBA Senior tour and it is nice to see him competing again. Webb was not able to bowl in the first two tournaments of the Senior tour season due to prior engagements at his bowling center, but he is now committed to winning a few more titles. I think that it is imperative to have the best senior bowlers competing each week. The Senior tour does not have much of a following outside of the bowling community, and having the great bowlers competing every week is the only way to build a following. I look forward to seeing Wayne Webb bowl the rest of the Senior tour season, and hopefully he will add another title to his impressive resume.
Jake has been an avid bowler since the age of 8, and regularly follows the PBA throughout the year.
