Making an eagle on a par 5 is rare. Making one on a par 4 is rarer still.
Martin Flores on Friday became one of the fortunate few to accomplish the later.
Flores, a nine-year professional from Fort Worth, Texas, who opened with a solid 67 on Thursday, vaulted to the top of the Wells Fargo Championship leaderboard with a torrid start to his second round that was highlighted by an eagle-2 at the 426-yard, par-4 11th hole at Quail Hollow.
Flores, who began his round with a birdie on the par-5 10th, flew his wedge-shot approach at 11 just below the hole, then watched as the ball hopped past the pin a few feet and spun back into the cup. The eagle improved his score to 9 under par and lifted him into the lead.
