Watch Elvis Andrus Steal Home Plate Against an Oblivious Padres Pitcher

Watch Elvis Andrus steal home plate against an oblivious Padres pitcher

There's a reason that we don't often see players steal home plate in a Major League Baseball contest. All the pitcher has to do, after all, is throw an on-point ball to the catcher as soon as he sees the runner go, and it will be an easy out for the defense.

That's only true, however, if the pitcher is paying attention.

Elvis Andrus of the Rangers caught the Padres' Kevin Quackenbush asleep at the wheel on Tuesday, and bolted for home plate just after the pitcher had been brought in as a reliever.

Quackenbush was so focused on the batter that he didn't see Andrus until it was too late, and the fact that he made the throw to the wrong side of the plate allowed Andrus to slide home safely, and make the play look all too easy.
