The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association declared Virginia State ineligible for the Division II playoffs after several Virginia State players attacked Winston-Salem State's starting quarterback before the conference championship game.
The CIAA canceled the game following the incident, in which Winston-Salem State quarterback Rudy Johnson was beaten by Virginia State players in a bathroom during a luncheon Friday before the scheduled championship game between the schools.
Both teams have 9-1 records, and Winston-Salem State will play in the Division II playoffs against host Slippery Rock this weekend.
