TE John Carlson sprained his medial collateral ligament during a running play at Vikings training camp on Tuesday.
According to Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press, Carlson got up from the ground slowly and limped to the training room about midway through practice.
Head coach Leslie Frazier said that Carlson, a high-priced free-agent addition this past offseason, did not tear a ligament in the knee, but his status for the Aug. 10 preseason opener at San Francisco is in question.
The Vikings signed the fourth-year veteran to a five-year, $25 million contract in March, and planned for him to form a potent pass-catching duo with starting TE Kyle Rudolph.
