Vikings tight end John Carlson suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament and may miss the team's preseason opener Aug. 10, although he did not tear the ligament. "You don't have to have any surgery. It heals by itself," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said, per the Pioneer Press. "It's a little bit more of a pain-tolerance thing and how he feels." Carlson was signed away from Seattle to a five-year, $25 million deal over the offseason with the intention of employing plenty of two-tight end formations along with Kyle Rudolph. Minnesota also has fourth-round pick Rhett Ellison, Mickey Shuler and Allen Reisner on the roster.
