WLB Erin Henderson was hit late in Week Two, left the game briefly and then returned. It took the Vikings three days to realize he had suffered a concussion. Henderson now will miss Sunday’s game against the 49ers, with the mandatory post-concussion process having begun late.
The Vikings will have to keep MLB Jasper Brinkley on the field in the nickel (Henderson’s usual spot) and bring in Marvin Mitchell to Henderson’s WLB position in the base defense. In 71 career games, mostly as a special-teamer, Mitchell has two NFL starts.
Henderson had been playing well through two games, minus a mixup that was his fault on Colts WR Reggie Wayne’s TD in Week Two, leading the team in tackles to that point. The biggest dropoff with Henderson out could actually be with Brinkley playing the middle in the nickel. He’s considered more of a downhill, two-down player who has had problems in the past with pass coverage.
