Vikings' Floyd slowed by sore knee

The SportsXchange

Minnesota Vikings rookie defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd is expected to be ready for the season opener despite a knee injury.

Coach Leslie Frazier said Monday that Floyd underwent a "minor procedure" -- not arthroscopic surgery -- on his left knee.

"I don't think he'll practice until next week," Frazier said. "It's nothing major. He shouldn't miss any time as far as our regular season is concerned."

Frazier added that Floyd is out for the Vikings' Sunday preseason game against the 49ers in San Francisco, and that he's doubtful for the exhibition finale, a home game Aug. 29 against the Tennessee Titans.

Minnesota opens Sept. 8 against the Lions in Detroit.

Floyd hurt his knee Aug. 9 in the Vikings' preseason opener against the Houston Texans. The 22-year-old was a first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in April out of the University of Florida.
