Vikings cutting John Carlson

The Minnesota Vikings are set to release veteran tight end John Carlson, a league source confirmed.

The news was first reported by FOX Sports.

Carlson, 29, caught 32 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown last season in 13 games.

His season ended prematurely due to a concussion, his third in six NFL seasons.

A restructured contract couldn't be worked out. Playing two seasons for the Vikings, Carlson caught just 40 passes for 387 yards and a touchdown.

Carlson signed a five-year, $25 million contract two years ago. Cutting him will save $2 million against the salary cap.
