Vikings CB Chris Cook suffers broken wrist

National Football Post

The Minnesota Vikings got a bad a beat Thursday night when they were thumped at home 36-17 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There was a bad break as well.

Cornerback Chris Cook, who was emerging as one of the better young players on the defense, will be sidelined after he suffered a broken right wrist trying to tackle Bucs running back Doug Martin. Cook had a cast on as he left the Metrodome and Vikings coach Leslie Frazier did not offer a potential timeline for a return, according to Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Rookie Josh Robinson replaced Cook and that bumped A.J. Jefferson, acquired in a Week 1 trade with the Arizona Cardinals, into the nickel role. It means there is an awful lot of inexperience in the defensive backfield with the exception of Antoine Winfield.

“They need to step up now," Winfield said. "I don't know how long Chris will be out. Broken wrist, that's not good. But our motto is when somebody goes down, it's the next man up."
