Vikings CB Allen retires at 24

The Vikings' depth issues at cornerback aren't going away. Nickel cornerback Asher Allen plans to retire at age 24, but coach Leslie Frazier said the decision wasn't based on lingering injury concerns.

Allen had a shoulder injury and suffered concussion-like symptoms last season. He informed Frazier last Thursday that he planned to retire and termed it a "family decision."

"I didn't see that coming," Frazier said.

The Vikings have veterans Antoine Winfield and Chris Cook back, signed Zack Bowman and Chris Carr in free agency and drafted UCF speedster Josh Robinson. That might sound like enough depth before considering the injury issues the Vikings encountered at the position last season.

Allen was a third-round pick in 2009. He started 21 games in three seasons, including nine of the 12 games in which he played in 2011.
