Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen will undergo surgery to a repair a torn labrum, according to 1500 ESPN Twin Cities.
Allen first appeared on the Vikings' injury report with a shoulder injury on Nov. 9. He continued playing the remainder of the season, but admitted after the team's wild-card playoff loss at the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night that the injury has significantly affected his play.
Allen had 12 sacks in 2012 after posting 22 the previous season.
"It's not good," Allen said. "My inside game wasn't as good as I would have liked for it to have been just because I really didn't have as much power in my hump. ... But you fight through it and you're never fully healthy. I'll get it cleaned up.
"This is the first time I'm every going underneath the knife. I had my tonsils out when I was 5 but that's it."
