Video: These baseball truths should be self-evident

Look, I’m not some guy who puts on a patriotic-looking Harrisburg Senators cap and then think it’s time to start re-writing the Declaration of Independence. Frankly, I don’t have the wig or the beard for such a thing.

But I do think the Fourth of July, our day of independence, is as good of a reason as any to consider and examine the things in which we believe. Far be it for me — some baseball blogger in a “Bill & Ted” T-shirt — to start talking to you about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I’d get so many “stick to sports” e-mails that my inbox will look like a fireworks stand on July 3.

So in this new installment of my Open Mike video series, I’m re-examining some things about our National Pastime. And, I’ll be honest with you, you might not like them. But much like our founding fathers knew it was time to forget the past and create a new future, I know it’s time that we kick some baseball traditions to the curb (I’m looking at you, The Wave).

It’s time we free ourselves from the oppressive fun police who tell us bat flips are bad. And it’s time to take back our right as baseball fans, not to pay for stadium for billionaires.

These are baseball truths that should be self-evident. So watch my address above and join me in making some new declarations this Fourth of July.
