Folks around the Bay Area are still talking about the fantastic game and wild finish at Haas Pavilion on the campus of the University of California on Saturday.

Local team Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), inspired by a big, loud crowd, prevailed 65-64 over four-time defending champion Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in a game it led just twice, at 64-63 and the final score.

The last foul call on Mater Dei caused a lot of discussion. It led to a game-winning free throw by Ivan Rabb with 0.8 seconds left. If it wasn't called, they may still be playing.

O'Dowd coach Lou Richie said that the more than 7,500 fans in attendance — almost all rooting for the Dragons — were a huge factor in his team ultimately pulling the game out.

"Without a doubt we fed off the crowd who were all galvanized to see it through," Richie said. "That's the loudest crowd noise I've ever heard for a high school game."
