Any time the New York Giants are without Nicks will place a greater burden on Cruz, the wide receiver who enjoyed a breakout season in 2011.Cruz’s contract came up at the event. He is entering the final year of his deal and stands to earn $540,000 in 2012. Clearly, the Giants will want to make him a significant part of the future.
Cruz, who hails from nearby Paterson, N.J., said he is waiting for the big contract to purchase his mother a new home.
“It's going to be whatever my agents are working on with the organization,” Cruz said of a potential new deal. “Whatever timing they feel is right. I'm going to go out there and take care of what my job is and that's to go out there and play football. Whenever the contract comes, it comes. I'm not going to be sitting back, waiting for it, thinking about it, because then I won't be focused on football. When that time comes, we'll cross that bridge.”
Cruz maintained a focus on football this offseason too when he passed on an opportunity to join ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” He’s waiting to make moves on the football field.
