Veteran guard Steinbach retires

National Football Post

Veteran guard Eric Steinbach has decided to retire after brief run with the Miami Dolphins in training camp.

"He's had an exceptional career in the NFL. He's an eight year starter," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said on Wednesday. "He's got a wonderful young family and his wife is expecting another child here soon. I enjoyed having him on the ball club, even though it was for a short period of time. I wish him all the best.

"I think a lot of him. I remember when he was 18 years old and we had to pull his teeth out to get him to move from tight end to offensive guard [in college]."

Steinbach is a former Pro Bowl player who started 124 games in his career, but suffered a back injury and missed all of last season when he was with the Cleveland Browns. He was making a comeback and signed with the Dolphins, where he had familiarity with Philbin, just before training camp began.
