Vermont 67, Maryland-Baltimore County 55

BALTIMORE -- Vermont raced out to a 19-point lead and stifled Maryland-Baltimore County for much of the game en route to a 67-55 victory in an America East Conference game on Saturday.

Clancy Rugg led the Catamounts (16-7, 9-2 in the America East) with 18 points, while Trey Blue had 16 and Luke Apfeld added 13.

The Catamounts shot 41 percent from the field (19-of-46), including 6 of 16 on 3-pointers.

The Retrievers (6-18, 4-7) shot 39 percent (20-of-52) from the field, but started the game cold, making only two of their first 12 shots, as the Catamounts used a 9-0 run to take a 13-4 lead.

Neither of the Retrievers' leading scorers, Brian Neller or Ryan Cook, scored in the first 16:17 of the game, but Neller drained two 3-pointers to cut what had been a 19-point Catamounts lead to 34-19 by halftime.

Neller and Joey Getz each had 12 points to lead the Retrievers, while Cook had 10.

The Retrievers were able to cut the lead to 10 points with 9:12 remaining in the game on Cook's 3-pointer, and got the lead down to nine a little later, but could get no closer.
