MLS Preview: San Jose Earthquakes - New England Revolution

The Vancouver Whitecaps came out ahead in a seven-goal thriller with the New England Revolution.

The opening half of the match featured five goals and a red card.

Juan Agudelo kicked off the scoring in the 10th minute by latching onto a punted long ball from Chris Tierney and tucking past Brad Knighton. Kelyn Rowe, making his first start since May 11, doubled the advantage 10 minutes later. A quick move involving Saer Sene and Diego Fagundez freed Rowe in the box to sidefoot home.

Five minutes later, Andrew Farrell clipped the cleats of Kenny Miller in the box, although replays suggested minimal, if any, contact. Camilo Sanvezzo finished the penalty for his ninth goal in 11 games.

The ejection proved a turning point.

The hosts pulled level with five minutes remaining in the half. Carlyle Mitchell headed the ball out of defense. Kenny Miller sped onto it, flicked past Stephen McCarthy and lashed home into the far right corner. Just before the half, Jordan Harvey bundled home at the far post from a Russell Teibert cross to give the Whitecaps the lead.

Miller scored his second midway through the second half. Off a long Camilo cross, the Scot hit an instinctive half volley from outside the box that rippled the netting.

Dimitry Imbongo pulled one back for the undermanned Revs in the final few minutes.
