The Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Saturday.
The home side opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Japanese international Daigo Kobayashi. The 30-year-old notched an assist last week, and opened his MLS scoring account with an impressive shot from distance. Darren Mattocks slid the ball over deep in midfield. Not closed down, Kobayashi wound up and blasted a shot from nearly 40 yards which swerved past Andy Gruenebaum and into the net.
A minute into the second half, Jairo Arrieta equalized. After a throw in, Ben Speas slid the Costa Rican into the box. Joe Cannon cheated to his right, so Arrieta slammed home a shot at the near post.
Vancouver had spruned myriad chances during a spell of dominance in the first half, and Kenny Miller finally made one stick just before the hour mark. The Scotish striker stripped Glauber of the ball and slipped the ball past Gruenebaum.
The Crew, who out-shot the Whitecaps 15 to eight, left Vancouver without any points.
