Van Bommel: Bayern can repeat treble triumph

Former Netherlands star Mark van Bommel says Bayern Munich can win the treble again, after die Roten became the first German side to do so in 2012-13.

The retired midfielder spent five years with the Bundesliga champion between 2006 and 2011, becoming the club's first non-German captain in 2008 after the retirement of legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.

"I would not be surprised if they win the treble again," the 36-year-old told Bild am Sonntag, adding that he thought the current team could "last for years".

He added: "Bavaria and especially Arjen [Robben] deserve it after the defeat against Chelsea [in the Champions League final in 2012].

"[They are] guys with class and character. Compliments to the board and president [Uli Hoeness]."

The former PSV, Barcelona and Milan star also spoke about his own plans for the future following his retirement at the end of last season, saying he would try and get his coaching license "as soon as possible".

"I want to see all my good friends [at Bayern] ... but also track [new head coach] Pep [Guardiola]'s work," he said.
