MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- Ryan Broekhoff had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Valparaiso to a 66-64 victory over Murray State on Saturday.
Jordan Coleman added 10 points for Valparaiso, which snapped Murray State's six-game home winning streak.
Murray State (9-3), whose school-record 16-game road winning streak ended in a Dec. 22 loss at Dayton, jumped to an early 11-2 lead behind 3-pointers from Dexter Fields and Isaiah Canaan. But Valparaiso outscored Murray State 21-11 over the next 15 minutes to take its first lead, 23-22.
The Crusaders led just once, 43-42, in the second half before Ben Boggs hit two free throws and a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions to put the Crusaders up for good.
Valparaiso (10-4), picked to win the Horizon League, outrebounded Murray State 42-26 and forced 17 turnovers.
Canaan had 24 points and Ed Daniel had 14 to lead Murray State, which led 31-28 at the half.
The Racers held on to their lead for eight minutes before the Crusaders, after coming within one point three times, took a 43-42 lead on a layup by Jordan Coleman.
Murray State regained the lead on a Canaan 3-pointer with 11:28 remaining and built its margin to 54-49 with 7:37 showing when Daniel, who scored 10 of his points in the second half, dunked on an open basket.
Broekhoff sank a 3-pointer and Erik Buggs made a tying layup for Valparaiso, which took the lead for the third time, 59-54, after two free throws and a 3-pointer by Boggs.
Fields responded with a 3-pointer to cut the Crusaders' lead to two points, but LaVonte Dority increased Valparaiso's lead with a free throw and a jumper with 2:07 left to play.
Two free throws by Canaan made the score 62-59, but a layup by Bobby Capobianco with 17 seconds left put the Crusaders ahead 64-59.
Canaan's layup at the 10-second mark brought the Racers back within three, but after a Murray State timeout, Boggs hit two free throws after being fouled by Canaan.
Canaan responded with a 3-pointer, but it wasn't enough for the Racers.
