Former Real Madrid star Jorge Valdano believes that Gareth Bale is too anxious when he takes to the pitch.
The Welshman made a world record 100 million euro move to the Spanish capital from Tottenham in the summer and has since scored 11 goals and notched 10 assists in 25 appearances for the club.
However, the Argentine believes Bale has been rescued by the performances of his teammates at times this season, claiming that rising star Jese Rodriguez's form has slipped under the radar due to the focus on Bale's inconsistency.
"Bale has a rare anxiety because he doesn't seem to be with the pace of the game," Valdano told AS.
"When you're anxious, you play at a speed above what suits you, but he is absent. The team saves him. There are many points of attention, including Jese, who is going unnoticed in Bale's bad moments."
Bale has the chance to prove a point for Carlo Ancelotti's side when Real hosts Liga struggler Elche on Sunday.
